Decisions: Burial or Cremation – St. John Dixie Cemetery

In life, a lot of decisions are made. May it be the dress that you will wear for the day, what school to choose for your kids, what investment plan to place your money in and so on. Even when it comes to dealing with death, certain decisions have to be made. One of them is deciding on cremation or burial.

Much like anything else in life, you need to weigh the pros and cons before deciding on it.

Burial is the one of the most traditional ways “to go”. While these days, burial is considered more costly as it requires you to purchase a parcel of land and spend a fortune on a decent coffin, it is still the most preferred service.

At the very least, it gives people a place to visit and commemorate the departed. It is also much accepted by more cultures, religion and tradition.

But the downside of burials, of course, is the cost. Cemetery plots can be quite expensive. Add to that the cost of the coffin, plus the funeral services. And the price goes even higher should you plan on transferring your deceased loved one to another site.

Cremation, on the other hand, may not be the most popular choice. But for some, it is quite practical. Cremation services are less costly and memorial services can be done later. The younger generation often prefer this method as it is more eco-friendly.
However, this option is not without a few catches. For one thing, cremation is not widely accepted in some cultures and religion. While Catholics have already allowed cremation, it is still not without rigid guidelines.

Then there’s a problem with dealing with the dilemma of where to place the urn. Loved ones will often argue on whose home should the cremation urn rest.

This is only a short list of the various things to consider, should you opt for either funeral plans. But whatever you decide on, it is best to discuss these matters with your loved ones especially if you want to plan ahead to spare them of any financial trouble.
