When someone you love passes, one of the most important—and often most overwhelming—decisions is choosing their final resting place. The setting matters. So does the meaning behind it. At St. John’s Dixie Cemetery & Crematorium, we understand how personal this choice is.
That’s why we offer a full range of options: from traditional burials to above-ground urn placements to peaceful scattering grounds. We’re here to help you understand what’s available, what it means, and how to make the choice that feels right for your family.
A Full-Service Cemetery & Crematorium
St. John’s Dixie has been serving the community for decades. As a licensed cemetery & crematorium, we provide everything in one place—making it easier for families to plan, personalize, and carry out their wishes with less stress.
Whether you’re planning ahead or making decisions after a loss, our staff is available to walk you through burial options, cremation services, interment regulations, and ceremonies. We believe in calm, clear guidance—never pressure.
Traditional In-Ground Burial
Burial remains a deeply meaningful choice for many families. Our cemetery offers beautifully maintained plots with customizable headstone or marker options. Some families choose upright monuments; others prefer flat markers for a more understated look.
Burials at St. John’s Dixie follow provincial regulations regarding grave depth, grave liner use, and lot rights. If you’re unfamiliar with burial terms, we’ll explain them—like the difference between pre-purchasing a plot or selecting one after a passing. Either way, your rights are protected under the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO).
In-ground burial offers permanence and tradition. It also gives families a physical space to visit and return to—something many find comforting over time.
Indoor and Outdoor Niches for Cremated Remains
For those choosing cremation, we offer both niche room and outside niche options. Niches are secure, above-ground spaces where cremation urns are placed. Each one can be personalized with a nameplate, photo, or special inscription.
- Niche Room: Located inside our cemetery building, the indoor space offers climate control, seating, and a calm, reflective atmosphere. It’s ideal for year-round visits and private moments.
- Outside Niches: These are found in our landscaped gardens and columbarium walls. They’re peaceful, sunlit, and surrounded by nature—perfect for those who want something outdoors and enduring.
Niches allow loved ones to rest together. Companion and family niches are available, and our staff can walk you through different layout and pricing options.
Our Designated Scattering Grounds
Some families prefer not to retain or inter ashes at all. For them, our designated scattering grounds offer a beautiful alternative.
Located on our cemetery grounds, this space is set aside for the respectful release of ashes—a sacred gesture done in accordance with Ontario regulations. It’s surrounded by trees, flowers, and walking paths, offering a quiet place to return to, even when there’s no marker.
We can help arrange a small ceremony at the scattering site, and many families choose to include a name in our Book of Remembrance or a plaque nearby. Scattering ashes doesn’t mean forgetting. It simply means choosing a softer goodbye.
Choosing What’s Right for Your Family
Deciding between burial, niche placement, or scattering is rarely straightforward. Every option comes with emotional and spiritual considerations—how often you want to visit, what your family traditions suggest, how connected you feel to a physical space.
We’ve seen families choose in-ground burials for generations because it feels familiar. Others embrace cremation and find peace in having ashes close by in a niche. And some choose scattering because their loved one always said, “When I go, let me be outside.”
There’s no right or wrong answer. Only what fits.
If faith or cultural practices are part of your decision-making, we’re happy to explain how each option supports those values. If your loved one didn’t leave instructions, we can help you explore what each path might mean for you.
Costs, Rights, and Transparency
We know these decisions often come with financial considerations. At St. John’s Dixie, we provide full transparency about interment and memorialization costs. You’ll receive a clear breakdown—no pressure, no surprises.
As a BAO-licensed operator, we also follow strict rules regarding your consumer rights, including:
- The right to receive a price list before making decisions
- Protection of interment rights (i.e., who can be buried where and who has decision-making authority)
- Access to contracts and refund options in specific cases
We’re happy to explain any of this before you make a commitment.
We Help You Compare Options—Without Pressure
Our goal is to make this process easier—not harder. Whether you’re deciding between cremation urns, outdoor versus indoor niches, or whether to scatter ashes at all, we’ll walk with you step by step.
Need help planning a family visit? Want to explore our facilities in person? We’d love to welcome you for a quiet, guided tour. Sometimes just seeing the spaces helps make everything feel a little clearer.
